Velocity field distributions due to ideal line vortices.
We evaluate numerically the velocity field distributions produced by a bounded, two-dimensional fluid model consisting of a collection of parallel ideal line vortices. We sample at many spatial points inside a rigid circular boundary. We focus on "nearest-neighbor" contributions that result from vortices that fall (randomly) very close to the spatial points where the velocity is being sampled. ...
متن کاملAxonal Velocity Distributions in Neural Field Equations
By modelling the average activity of large neuronal populations, continuum mean field models (MFMs) have become an increasingly important theoretical tool for understanding the emergent activity of cortical tissue. In order to be computationally tractable, long-range propagation of activity in MFMs is often approximated with partial differential equations (PDEs). However, PDE approximations in ...
متن کاملMean-field theory of collective motion due to velocity alignment
Establishing a direct link between individual based models and the corresponding population description is a common challenge in theoretical ecology. Swarming is a prominent example, where collective effects arising from interactions of individuals are essential for the understanding of large-scale spatial population dynamics, and where both levels of modelling have been often employed without ...
متن کاملLine-of-sight velocity distributions of low-luminosity elliptical galaxies
The shape of the line-of-sight velocity distribution (LOSVD) is measured for a sample of 14 elliptical galaxies, predominantly low-luminosity ellipticals. The sample is dominated by galaxies in the Virgo cluster but also contains ellipticals in nearby groups and low density environments. The parameterization of the LOSVD due to Gerhard and van der Marel & Franx is adopted, which measures the as...
متن کاملElectromagnetic Field Due to Lightning Strikes to Mountainous Ground
The produced electric and magnetic fields due to lightning strikes to mountainous ground are determined in this paper. For the sake of simplicity a cone-shaped ground with finite conductivity is assumed to represent a natural nonflat ground. By this assumption, we deal with an axillary symmetrical structure so we use the cylindrical 2D-FDTD to save the simulation memory and time, dramatically. ...
